AKA MODERN CINEMA CINEMA IN THE AGE OF CANCEL CULTURE
At a time when many films as well as writers, stars and directors have fallen foul of a supposed cancel culture, this Midday Masterclass will examine the truth behind the headlines, delving into the history of censorship and beyond exploring ways in which we might still appreciate good work by questionable people. With plenty of clips and using examples like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood…, Four Lions and older work like Rosemary’s Baby we will shine a light on whether ideological pressure is shrouding our ability to enjoy modern cinematic entertainment and ask where or if we should we draw the line between historical context and damaging forms of propaganda?
