Punch-Drunk Love feels a little like the odd one out when looking at Paul Thomas Anderson’s filmography – tonally it’s lighter, more off-kilter. But it still has much of what we’ve come to expect from a PTA title: unexpected humour, a fantastic soundtrack, and an absolutely knock-out performance from Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Adam Sandler (in his first dramatic role) plays Barry Egan, a depressed novelty toilet-plunger salesman struggling to control his anger issues. His life changes when he inadvertently attracts the attention of a mystery woman named Lena.
