OKA Satomi, a choir club leader, is suddenly cornered after a recital by yakuza lieutenant NARITA Kyoji, who promptly invites Satomi to a karaoke session, asking him for singing lessons in order to avoid the humiliating “horror” that awaits those who come last in the group’s karaoke competition. At first, Satomi is understandably reluctant to get involved, what with the conventional image of members of the yakuza, but after witnessing Kyoji’s desperation – not to mention his hopeless karaoke skills – he is gradually dragged in to help him.
Adapted from a popular manga series, Let’s Go Karaoke! breaks new ground for the yakuza film: still bloody, but bloody hilarious.
