BFI Film Academy Short Course Programme delivered by Broadway

What is Broadway's BFI Film Academy Short Course?

BROADWAY TRAINS AND INSPIRES THE NEXT GENERATION OF FILMMAKERS.

As an established regional delivery partner for the BFI Film Academy Short Course programme for the past 12 years - Broadway has supported and nurtured 232 aspiring talented young people from every background in taking their first step towards a career in the Film & TV industry as part of our prestigious course!

We are the lead partner of the East Midlands Short Course consortium and are proudly partnered with QUAD in Derby, Paradigm Arts in Lincoln and new delivery partner - The Core at Corby Cube in Corby.

Our prestigious designed programme offers an inclusive and creative experience through a bootcamp style 4-week process - of hands-on practical and theoretical filmmaking course of masterclasses, workshops, lecturers and labs.

We invite award-winning Tutors and Guest Speakers who work full-time in the Film and TV industry to deliver our bespoke programme, some of whom are past participants of Broadway’s BFI Film Academy who have since progressed in their screen industry career.

We introduce the young people to departments and roles such as; Screenwriting, Camera, Sound, Lighting, Directing, Production Design, Producing, Assistant Directing and Editing.

And we cover the basic but essential lessons such as; on-set etiquette and language, health and safety, working with actors, administration, environmental sustainability, how to be inclusive in filmmaking, why collaboration and working as a team is key!

After developing their knowledge and practical skills, course participants team up to make two short films in an assigned vital production role over a two-day period featuring emerging acting talent from The Television Workshop. The films made during the course will be screened to the participants' family and friends here at Broadway in January 2025.

As part of the new consortium, Broadway and their partners will bring their 2024-25 cohorts to Broadway to screen all films made over the Nottingham, Derby, Corby and Lincoln Short Courses as part of an industry and networking celebration event in March 2025.

Lastly, during their time on our course, participants will also work towards completing the Silver Arts Award qualification for the national Short Course programme.

APPLICATIONS OPEN ON 6 AUGUST AND CLOSE ON 15 SEPTEMBER 2024. ELIGIBILITY APPLIES - SEE BELOW FOR FULL DETAILS.
