On 22 July 2011, armed right-wing extremist Anders Breivik killed 69 people on the island of Utøya, where hundreds of teenagers were attending a summer camp. Director Erik Poppe worked closely with survivors to deliver this moving, though harrowing real-time recreation of this horrific event from the victims’ perspectives. Following 18-year-old Kaja through the 72 minutes of the attack, UTOYA – JULY 22 is a painful but necessary examination of the dangers of far-right extremism and domestic terrorism within Europe.
