Mayhem Film Festival announces first films for 20th Anniversary Edition as Early Bird Passes go on sale

Mayhem Film Festival announces THE PARAGON, HUMANIST VAMPIRE SEEKING CONSENTING SUICIDAL PERSON and HOLLYWOOD 90028 as Early Bird Passes go on sale

Mayhem is proud to announce the first three films of its 20th edition which will take place at Broadway, Nottingham on 17-20 October 2024.

First up is the UK Premiere of Michael Duignan’s feature debut, The Paragon. Victim of a hit-and-run which he blames for the loss of his job and his girlfriend, an egocentric man decides to acquire psychic powers to take revenge on the driver who ran him over. Starring Benedict Wall and Florence Noble, as well as What We Do in the Shadows’ Jonny Brugh, The Paragon is a cosmic adventure with a big heart told with distinct Kiwi humour.

Next up is Ariane Louis-Seize’s Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. Teenage vampire Sasha refuses to kill to survive. Exasperated, her parents decide to cut off her blood supply until she learns to hunt for herself. When she meets Paul, a young man with suicidal tendencies, an opportunity presents itself, but perhaps those two lost souls have more in common than they know. Ariane Louis-Seize has crafted a delightful deadpan coming-of-age comedy horror.

To round-up this first wave of announcements, Mayhem will be presenting a rare screening of Christina Hornisher’s exceptional first feature Hollywood 90028. Shot against the backdrop of  1970s Los Angeles, the film follows an ambitious cameraman who, unable to get work outside of the sleazy world of adult films, begins to release his frustrations by strangling young women. Once forgotten, Hollywood 90028 is returning to the big screen in a stunning 4K restoration. A love letter to pre-gentrification LA and a stern commentary on class, gender and the film industry, Christina Hornisher’s debut is a truly haunting thriller that will stay with you long past the end credits

Mayhem is back to explore the strange borders of genre cinema” said festival Co-Director Chris Cooke. “From the uncanny to messed up road movies, from all action thrillers to introspective horror comedies, we’ll have something for everyone.”

Broadway’s Director of Marketing and Communications commented: “The Mayhem weekend is always an incredible experience, with audiences coming from all over the UK to revel in the films the Mayhem team has worked tirelessly to acquire and curate, The standard is always high, and we can’t wait to host the Mayhem Film Festival in its 20th year at Broadway.
