Broadway Cinema is inviting Deaf and hard of hearing customers to trial WatchWord captioning glasses - find out how to take part

We're looking for D/deaf and hard of hearing customers to take part in our WatchWord smart glasses trial

Broadway is delighted to be taking part in an exciting two-week trial (running from Fri 1 - Thu 14 Nov) for WatchWord, a new closed captioning system that uses smart glasses to provide personalised captions in cinemas for D/deaf, deafened, and hard of hearing cinema audiences whenever they need them.

For a limited period, WatchWord smart glasses are available to trial here at Broadway (to be booked in advance only) and can be used free of charge. They can be worn over normal glasses and alongside hearing aids and cochlear implant processors. The captions appear on the glasses lens, making it possible to watch the film and read the captions without having to look away from the screen and miss out on any of the action.

How to take part

If you are D/deaf, deafened or hard of hearing and you're interested in taking part in this trial, please email info@broadway.org.uk using the subject line WatchWord, including:

  • Your full name
  • Which screening you would like to attend (please find a list of applicable screenings below)
  • Your preferred seat(s)

If you haven’t booked with us before, we may need to take some additional details from you when confirming your booking.

Please note:

  • We currently have 4 x pairs of WatchWord glasses available, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Once all 4 pairs have been allocated, we will be unable to accept further bookings in that time slot.
  • Your booking is not guaranteed until you receive a response from our team confirming that we have reserved a seat and a set of glasses for you.
  • Customers taking part in this trial will be required to take our WatchWord post-screening survey.
