Tommy On Top is excited to present an absolute must watch for all queers, The Watermelon Woman! Doing the rounds after its recent 30th anniversary, this is one of the first films directed by a Black lesbian to receive theatrical distribution.
The movie follows filmmaker and video store clerk Cheryl Dunye who discovers a 1930s-era Black actress named ‘The Watermelon Woman’ and decides to find out more about her. Cannily blending fiction and documentary, the film follows Cheryl’s journey of investigation and self-discovery.
Join Nottingham's favourite dykes (allies welcome!) for a night of Black queer filmmaking, romantic comedy and reminiscing about the years of video rental stores.
Afterwards, Tommy on Top will be hosting a dyke bar takeover of the Lezz Bar (née Mezz Bar) from 8pm where you can mingle and discuss all your lesbian movie thoughts.
