About the exhibition
Our whole lives are shaped and lived through stories; these can be true events, memories, experiences, family histories, beliefs, culture, facts or fiction. A Native American proverb says: ‘Tell me the facts and I’ll learn. Tell me the truth and I’ll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever’.
This exhibition’s title originates from a quote by Margaret Atwood: “we lived in the gaps between the stories” from The Handmaid’s Tale. The gaps in our stories can be perturbing even unsettling. There may be missing information, rendering a story incomplete, or a gap may be a disconnect between several stories. These gaps and the stories we tell in their various forms, both real and imagined, are the inspiration for this collection of works.
