- Year: 2019
- Type: Learning and Training
This event is for teachers and students only - suitable for those studying film and media at Key Stage 5.
This event, transferred from BFI Southbank in London and intended for students and teachers only, will help foster the critical skills necessary to develop independent thought regarding representation.
Issues of representation in relation to genre and authorship will be considered with examples from films and television linked directly to gender, race, ethnicity, disability and regionality. Clips including those from Get Out (2017), A Quiet Place (2018), Straight Outta Compton (2015), the Marvel franchise, The Bridge, Life on Mars and Atlanta will be used to explore specific interactions such as horror and race, crime drama and gender, and superhero and disability.
The day will be led by Maxine Crampton, a Principal Moderator for EDUQAS AS Film coursework, Course Leader for Film Studies and a teacher of Media Studies at a Sixth Form College. Maxine is an examiner for A Level Film for WJEC and has also examined and moderated Media Studies.
Arrival from 10am for a prompt 10.30am start.
