PRESENTED IN ASSOCIATION WITH NEW ART EXCHANGE
We’re delighted to present this screening as part of Nottingham’s Mela. The first film, CHILDREN PLAYING GOD (Dir: Ashok Vish/India/2018) follows the lives of five boys during their two-month rehearsal period for the month-long Ramlila performance based on the epic poem, Ramayana celebrated with immense religious fervour and gaiety. The second film, DADA AND THE PUNJABI PRINCESS (Dir: Chila Kumari Burman/UK/2017) is a fusion of punk, pop art & Bollywood. Burman subverts our expectations of how Asian women look and behave through a playful engagement with a range of cultural and visual histories.
The screening will be followed by a discussion between directors Ashok Vish, Chila Kumari Burman and director of the New Art Exchange, Skinder Hundal.
