Free - just turn up

Nottingham's Independent Photo Festival - Off-Centre Photo Festival - is back for a second year, celebrating the creative photographic work of local individuals and communities - we'll be exhibiting work in Broadway's Gallery from local photographers Steven Haddock, Anette Holt, Michael Sanders, Sam Stockman, and Corrin Wilkinson.

Alongside Broadway's Gallery, the venues for the festival include New Art Exchange, Backlit, Pilgrim Church, St Peters Church, Rough Trade, Sobar, Central Library, Carousel, and The Photo Parlour Nottingham.

About the festival

The Nottingham Centre for Photography and Social Engagement was set up after the success of the 2018 Off-Centre Festival.  The Centre aims to provide accessible facilities and support for photographers, and a platform for individuals and communities to develop their work and engage with one another. In particular, the Centre aims to work with diverse groups of individuals, in an effort to be inclusive and address inequality.

Off-Centre offers a platform for local photographers to showcase their work, improve their skills, and develop their personal approach to their projects. The Festival also collaborates with other groups and charities across the city to make photography as inclusive as possible. This year's edition includes exhibitions with elders, people with issues around mental well-being, and people from the Afro-Caribbean community in the Meadows.

Between June and September 2019, Nottinghamshire-based photographers of all career stages were invited to submit artworks as part of an open call. Over 250 photographers applied and around 80 photographers were chosen to show work by a panel of industry professionals. The panel included renowned photographer Vanley Burke; curator, photographer and lecturer George Miles, creative producer Nicola Shipley (GRAIN); Louise Fedotov-Clement, Artistic Director at Quad; visual artist Lamar Francois, and Jade Foster, a creative producer at New Art Exchange (NAE).
