The Films of Stanley Kubrick explores the work of one of cinema’s most influential and enigmatic directors, tracing how Kubrick developed a distinctive authorial voice across genres as varied as science fiction, horror, war, and period drama. This course will examine what it means to describe Kubrick as an auteur, considering the visual and narrative signatures that unite his films from Dr. Strangelove to Eyes Wide Shut.
We'll also consider the often-polarised critical reception of Kubrick’s films - their initial controversies, later re-evaluations, and enduring cultural impact - inviting participants to reflect on why his cinema continues to fascinate, disturb, and inspire new generations of viewers.
