Tsutomu lives in a secluded mountain cabin with his dog and his wife’s ashes. His days are filled with harvesting vegetables, which he uses to prepare his meals. Along with his girlfriend, his mother-in-law, Chie, is one of few close bonds in his relatively solitary life. After Chie’s death, Tsutomu takes on the task of arranging her funeral and preparing a big feast to commemorate her.
