A Life in Tandem tells the extraordinary true story of Luke, who was diagnosed with incurable stage 4 cancer aged 24. Given months to live, he sets off on a 20,000-mile cycle from Bristol to Beijing - on a tandem. Yet before this, in his first round of chemotherapy, he loses his brother, John, in a climbing accident. He leaves his old life crumbling behind him as he cycles with over 800 people across the world - from the Indian schoolboy who'd had cancer as a child to the Ukrainian pastor in the last days of peace in Mariupol. During this journey, Luke rebuilds his strained relationship with his mum and shows the world that even with cancer, anything is possible.
About Luke and his connection to MOVE Against Cancer and Young Lives vs Cancer, the two charities that this film screening is supporting:
Luke Grenfell-Shaw MBE is a patron of the MOVE Against Cancer charity. His philosophy about the importance of movement when living with a cancer diagnosis chimes perfectly with the charity's mission. He says: "This film is about hope, about finding a way forward when things feel impossible. Even the smallest amount of exercise could make all the difference". Young Lives vs Cancer exists to provide practical and emotional support to help young people (0 - 25 years) and their families face whatever cancer throws at them. Luke, and his family were supported by Young Lives vs Cancer when he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2018, at the age of 24.
This My Movie is a charity screening; all funds raised will help support Young Lives vs Cancer, and MOVE Against Cancer.
