Join us for a talk by a group of artists participating in new residency programme Sudden Beams 3, produced by Broadway's Near Now studio for arts, design and innovation. The artists will share insights into how they are exploring their practices through the lens of new screen technologies, world-building, and non-linear storytelling.
Sudden Beams 3 is a hybrid residency produced in collaboration by Platform Asia (UK), Videotage (Hong Kong), FACT Liverpool (UK) and Broadway's Near Now. It brings together six early-career artists from different artistic ecologies across the UK and Hong Kong, fostering exchange and collaboration through a digital programme that culminates in a 12-day intensive in the UK.
In this Near Now Studio Talk the participating artists will present their research and works-in-progress, showcasing their exploration of themes such as AI, XR, game engines, web 3.0, and expanded screen culture.
Together, the artists will reflect on the residency's core themes: world-building, non-linear storytelling, and the role of emerging technologies in transforming screen culture. They will also discuss the potential and challenges of working across digital tools and world-building methodologies, and how new technologies help shape diverse forms of artistic practice.
