Oscar Wilde is a playwright, novelist, wit and, more than anything, an icon. More than any of his peers, it could be argued, he has, for all the period trappings of the adaptations of his work, remained resolutely modern. Some of that stems from his biography and his reputation - a man who challenged the mores of his time and suffered for it. But it's there in the work as well, an incisive, probing mind, allied with an often wayward heart, who tackled the society in which he lived with humour and even wisdom.

In Oscar Wilde on Screen, we'll be looking at not only the film and television versions of his plays and books, but also our fascination with revisiting the man himself on screen.

It's going to get Wilde. [I'll get my (frock) coat.]
