Preview: Blue Road - The Edna O'Brien Story

In 1960, a young Irish woman named Edna O’Brien became a literary sensation after releasing her sexually frank debut novel, The Country Girls. Her success enraged her husband and made her a pariah in her native Ireland so she made her home in London, where she made and lost a fortune. In July 2024, Edna passed away and this film provides a final testimony from her, aged 93, with excerpts of her personal journals read by Jessie Buckley.

We’re pleased to be hosting this special preview screening of Blue Road ahead of its release in April. The film will be introduced by academic Deirdre O’Byrne, with live music in the Café Bar from 6pm.
