Mayhem Film Festival
Founded in 2005 by filmmakers Steven Sheil and Chris Cooke, Mayhem Film Festival screens the very best in contemporary horror, science-fiction, and cult cinema and television from around the world.
Held each October at Broadway, Mayhem features premieres, previews, new releases and cult classics, breakthrough shorts, midnight movies, masterclasses, unique live events and more.
From its origins as a one-day short film showcase, Mayhem Film Festival has since grown into a mammoth four-day event, taking over Broadway’s biggest screen for a full weekend, developing a reputation as one of the strongest and most innovative genre festivals in the country.

Festival highlights
Festival highlights include a screening of Don’t Look Now in the Gothic surroundings of the nearby St. Mary’s Church with legendary director Nicolas Roeg in attendance, a special archive presentation and interview with Mark Gatiss (The League of Gentlemen, Sherlock, Doctor Who), and a masterclass with director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). Other unique events include live readings of lost Hammer Films screenplays, a rare screening of Tod Browning’s silent classic The Unknown with a specially-composed original live score by 8mm Orchestra, and a panel from the cast and creators of hit BBC TV series Being Human. Mayhem has also welcomed filmmakers such as Ben Wheatley (High Rise, Sightseers, Free Fire), Mike Hodges (Get Carter, Flash, Beyond The Black Rainbow) and Robin Hardy (The Wicker Man) to present their films at the festival, alongside a host of other filmmakers from the UK and around the world.
Mayhem 2018 was our biggest yet, with a line-up including a packed preview screening of Japanese box office-smash One Cut of the Dead, the UK premieres of Prospect, Inuyashiki and Number 37, as well as a late-night, sold-out screening of Mandy.
Mayhem also curates and presents special one-off screenings and events throughout the year, so look out for updates and announcements.
