Earlier this year we lost the supremely talented and charismatic singer, actor and activist, Harry Belafonte. Close friends with Paul Robeson, who he considered a mentor, Martin Luther King Jr. and Sidney Poitier, Belafonte performed and worked with everyone from Charlie Parker to Julie Andrews to Spike Lee. Here, he and Dorothy Dandridge light up the screen in Otto Preminger’s fiery musical classic, featuring an all-black cast.
This screening will be introduced by filmmaker Campbell X.
